Workpackages 3 and 4, dealing with the technological development of smart sensors and their integration with remote control and communication systems, form an interface between the fundamental research (WP1 and WP2) and the practical applications (WP5). These two workpackages are dealing with the engineering of an efficient and smart inspection systems based on the NEWS principles:

WP 3 covers three important tasks related to the object excitation and its response sensing techniques. Particular tasks involve 1) market studies of existing sensor technology including smart sensor design, 2) new excitation and sensing elements development, integration of sensors in aircraft components (Milestone 4[1]) and 3) finding solutions to problems of optimal sensor placement.
